Frequently Asked Questions
Can Just Reading help guide my child on homework?
Yes. Just Reading’s services can provide tailored reading and writing homework support without doing it for the student.
Request this homework support by choosing an ‘extended session’ option and customizing what you need.
I’m not sure if I need these specialized services. What should I do next?
Knowledge is power for families. Just Reading’s free consultation and free screener assessment will give you more clarity about your student and what services would help your family. We are happy to be your trusted resource and will let you know if something else works better.
Families still receive tips on what they can do on their own and what to ask their child’s classroom teacher about in an upcoming meeting.
How does in-home teaching work well for students and family members?
The teacher drives to your home and uses a designated space for the lesson. You can watch the lesson, work on something nearby, or be in another room. In-home lessons are very helpful for students who are easily distracted and have difficulty with transitions.
This model of teaching means a high level of customization, collaboration, and transparency for families. In-home teaching respects and values the family’s time. Families have been able to work from home, attend to small children, enjoy their passion project, or finally get time to cook a healthy meal on a busy workday. See our hours, get excited.
What makes Just Reading different from a local tutoring center?
How much is your family’s time worth? A significant hidden cost of a tutoring center is the time you spend in order to access it: commutes, wait time, and specific center hours that shrink your own schedule.
Group tutoring models can mean more distraction, less personalization, and briefer amounts of focused attention from the teacher. More group sessions may be needed to get exactly what your child needs, which can be more expensive overall.
Just Reading’s focus on specialized, in-home instruction gives your child the focused time they need to feel seen and supported. The family gets their time, schedule, and freedom back.
How long do I have to work with Just Reading to see results?
Progress depends upon each student’s needs and goals and is communicated at the end of each cycle.
Before services are even started, the teacher assesses to determine the instructional goals, a plan to achieve this goal, as well as a recommended number of sessions and weeks. Family gets the plan, estimate of time, and then gives the green light to go ahead for that specific plan. Services aren’t started without a goal or defined plan.
Sessions are delivered in 6-8 week rounds. In the school setting, each round is known as an ‘intervention cycle.’ The student is assessed before starting the cycle and after the cycle is completed. Progress is communicated to family after each cycle.
